The prodigious Fabrice Luchini will be the special guest of the opening ceremony of the 2023 Lumière film festival.
The film of the gala evening, Sunset Boulevard, Billy Wilder's masterpiece of the golden age of Hollywood, will be screened in a restored print.
An incomparable artist of the theatre and one of the most popular actors of French cinema, recently seen in movies by François Ozon and Guillaume Nicloux, and soon to star in new films by Bruno Dumont and Christophe Honoré, Fabrice Luchini will open the 15th edition of the Lumière film festival in the presence of guest artists, cinema professionals and 5,000 festivalgoers!
During the festive evening, Luchini will discuss his favourite films and his relationship with cinema, without forgetting to elaborate on his passion for Sacha Guitry, Henri-Georges Clouzot and Marcel Pagnol.
Sunset Boulevard, Billy Wilder's masterpiece, is a movie that continues the spirit of the festival and its series of previous openers such as Singin’ in the Rain in the presence of Stanley Donen or the premiere of The Artist with Michel Hazanavicius, Bérénice Bejo and Jean Dujardin in attendance. Such films also reflect the history of cinema, its memory and its transmission.

Released in 1950, led by Gloria Swanson and Erich von Stroheim, monuments of silent cinema, and William Holden, who rose to fame thanks to this performance, Sunset Boulevard is a powerful evocation of Hollywood at the turn of the 1950s, in the twilight of its first golden age, while a new generation was emerging to take up the reins.
