Summer kisses, winter tears by Julee Cruise in Until the End of the World

Do we hear all the tracks of the “all-star” OST in Until the End of the World? In any case, some of the tracks get special treatment. Such is the case with Sax and Violins by the Talking Heads, which is used from the very first scenes, complete with video. Another one in the limelight is a silky love song sung by Lynch's muse, who regrettably passed away last year, Julee Cruise, (and, unless I'm mistaken, the track is also sung by Solveig Dommartin on the run). Summer Kisses, Winter Tears is a bona-fide movie song, since Elvis Presley, who first recorded it in 1960, was originally supposed to sing it in the western Flaming Star by Don Siegel, perhaps his best film. The performance was filmed in front of an audience of Indians enthralled by the King's crooning, but, perhaps as a result, it did not survive the final cut, although it did appear on the mini album Elvis By Request. Thirty years later, Angelo Badalamenti (and David Lynch, who was also credited with the production) turned it into a showcase for the singer's pure voice, backed by the lap steel guitar of Greg Leisz, a virtuoso who has played with the cream of American pop rock. If you listen to this track, you won't be able to live without it.
